Yesterday (19/12/09), I attended as a recently entered apprentice to the renovation of authorities in the craft lodge to which I belong in the valley of Lima. There were 3 hours of ancient rites, deep religious fervour, extreme humility, faith in man's destination, great discipline, enormous happiness, fraternity and formal elegance: dark suit, glistening white shirts, cat tie and almost military hefty posture. Great and beautiful spectacle, being necessary to see it to perceive it in all their extension.
With child's eyes and potential aesthete structure last night I felt proud of being Peruvian, when putting in their fair dimension the weight of rites and expressions of ancient iniciatic traditions in old institutions. I remembered the gold facial masks, earmuffs and sophisticated staffs of moches in their main feasts, heavy adminicles suspended in the auditory excrescences of orejones (prehispanic Peruvian military chiefs), during warlike actions, tattoos of the priests and their U shape constructions to adore their gods. In that search of transcend and to desire to communicate with superior beings, I felt proud to be a human being. Interpreting the general humility in eternal search to be perfected spiritually I felt proud of being part of that universal cosmic mind of which all thinking beings of the universe form part.
Although our Lodge has about 100 members, alone 20-25 are active, attending regularly. For it when I entered to the lodge I was surprised to see a similar number of strange people in front of my eyes. Many past worshipful master masons belonging to other Lodges came here not to be mere spectators, but active participants along the whole ceremony. And, while they made it another great lesson: they didn't show any protocol technical fissure, but a great perfection. Once freemason, it is forever.
During the preamble and at the end of the ceremony I saw powerful managers and professionals loading ornamental gears, like entered apprentices. With similar humility I thought how appropriate would be to replace the less efficient congress members of our homeland, for freemasons. As in craft masonic lodges superior men are formed it doesn't fit the smallest doubt that if this desire became reality our country would change very fast. In some moment 200 (of a total of 600) French congress members were freemasons. It was when French education improved a lot.
"I promise", "I suit" were the answers (almost oaths), to questions dedicated to assure an appropriate behavior of the new directive. Although to the interior of the lodges exist from time to time minor disagreements (due to human imperfection), these don't end up becoming black plagues. The protocol structure, the abundance of fraternity and the sense of a moral and superior ethics ends up soon knocking down these bad behaviours. For it today freemasonry is so young.
