FRATERNITY, CHARITY and BEAUTY

2 weeks ago in our Lodge were read again (we really, ignore how many times), the memory that our brethren S.I. Tesse lectured in Iquique (then, peruvian territory), on June, 24th, 1876. The reading of this classic piece of Peruvian Masonry (see here), recreates facts confronted for our baby–Lodge to scarce 12 months of its foundation. We ignore who had the happy idea of choosing this literary piece, expression of faith on humans beings, as long as it summarizes virtues enhanced for men of good will through all the times, inserting it with steel tacks in our web page. For what concerns us, their re-reading induced in us such an emotional impact that motivate us to sketch 2 reflections and a hypothesis. I) The first reflection examines the reasons for which the members of our lodge of that then don't incorporate to the Great Chilean Lodge at the end of Pacific War understanding that in not few circumstances certain institutions bend to the winner, taking also into account the well-known circumstance of Iquique location : a border city with a foot there and other here.

II) The second reflection deepened in the message of several facts carried out by our brethren 135 years ago. After a fire happened in Iquique in October of 1875, that devastated properties and housings of some of our brethren; our Lodge promotes an economic subscription among their members (to which would be added other coming from Lima), being collected funds that alleviated severely affected brethrens. An opportune lesson of fraternity carried out very fast. Activity that slowed but don't paralyze the project of construction of an own temple containing rooms for a free school for freemasons' children and daughters and for all Peruvian that cannot educate their children. The memory add the soon setting of a splendid Masonic library. Are not this charity?.

Also, the efforts to acquire with own resources that kind of things that men yearn after having satiated their vital necessities: beauty, being taken charge to French goldsmiths: swords, canes and medals of fine metals, beautifully fringed banners, musical instruments, etc. So you see mixed: fraternity, charity and beauty. Affected in these days by phenomena of nature that burden Haiti, Chile and ours departments of Puno and Cusco, the members of our Lodge F and P No 28, alone have continued with the immortal example of fraternity that gave us our brethrens in 1875. Due to it our beautiful and dear lodge does continue but young and will live forever. III) Finally why the brethren of our Lodge of that then, preferred to continue belonging to the Great Peruvian Lodge?. Although we admit that it is alone a hypothesis we assume that such a decision followed the dictations of their hearts. Revising the personal identification of members of our Lodge in 1876, we identify in them mostly French, Italian, German, Spaniards and Portuguese last names, foreigners or first generation of the same ones. Having lived the undersigned most of their childhood in the Peruvian port of Chimbote populated for then for hundred of foreign immigrants attracted by the boom of fishing and nascent iron and steel industry and thousands of collateral employments I know for my own experience that foreigners that made fortune in the port always tried to reward to the country that welcomed them with part of that won by means of countless charity acts. Also when you asked them what country love they but, they will always answer: I was born in my country for accident, I am son of the earth that welcomed me, that gave me fortune and allowed me to forge and to fructify to my family.

FRATERNIDAD, BENEFICIENCIA y BELLEZA

Hace 2 semanas en nuestra Logia se volvió a leer (ignoro cuantas veces yá), la memoria que el hermano S.I. Tesse disertara en Iquique (entonces territorio peruano), el 24 de Junio de 1876. La lectura de este clásico de la masonería peruana, recrea hechos confrontados por nuestra Logia-bebé a escasos 12 meses de su fundación. Ignoramos quien (es), tuvieron la feliz idea de escoger esta pieza literaria, expresión de fé y esperanza en los humanos, en tanto resume virtudes propugnadas por hombres de buena voluntad de todos los tiempos, insertándola con tachuelas de acero en nuestra pagina virtual. Por lo que a nosotros respecta, su re-lectura indujo en nosotros tal impacto emocional que nos motivó a esbozar 2 reflexiones y una hipótesis. I) La primera reflexión escudriña las razones por las que los integrantes de nuestra logia de ese entonces no se incorporan al Gran Oriente chileno culminada la Guerra del Pacifico, entendiéndose que en no pocas circunstancias ciertas instituciones se pliegan al vencedor, conocida la circunstancia fronteriza de Iquique con un pie allá y otro aquí.

II) La segunda reflexión ahonda en el mensaje de hechos realizados por los hermanos de nuestra Logia F y P No 28 hace 135 años. Trás un incendio ocurrido en Iquique en Octubre de 1875, que devastó viviendas y propiedades de hermanos masones, nuestra Logia promueve una suscripccion económica entre los miembros del Taller (a los que se sumarian otros procedentes de Lima), recaudándose fondos que aliviaron a damnificados severamente afectados. Señera lección de fraternidad realizada oportuna y raudamente. Actividad que enlenteció pero no paralizó en lo minimo el proyecto de construcción de un templo propio conteniendo habitáculos para una escuela gratuita para hijos e hijas de masones y para todo peruano que no pudiese educar a sus hijos. La memoria añade la puesta en marcha de una flamante biblioteca masónica.¿No es esto beneficiencia?.

Tambien, los esfuerzos por adquirir con recursos propios, enseres y útiles masónicos incorporando en esta tarea aquello que anhelan los hombres tras haber saciado sus necesidades vitales :belleza, siendo encargados a orfebres franceses :espadas, bastones y medallas de finos metales, estandartes bellamente orlados, instrumentos musicales, etc. Como veréis, fraternidad, beneficiencia y belleza juntas, escritas con letra imperecedera. Afectados en estos días por fenómenos de la naturaleza que agobian a Haiti, Chile y a nuestros de partamentos de Puno y Cusco, los hermanos de la Logia F y P No 28, solo hemos hemos continuado con el ejemplo imperecedero de fraternidad que nos dieron nuestros hermanos en 1875. Por ello nuestra bella y amada logia sigue mas joven y viva que nunca III) Finalmente ¿porque los conformantes de nuestra Logia de ese entonces, prefirieron continuar perteneciendo al Gran Oriente peruano?. Aunque admitimos que es solo una hipótesis asumimos que tal decisión se adoptó siguiendo los dictados de sus corazones. Revisando la filiación de los integrantes de nuestra Logia en 1876, identificamos en ellos mayoría de apellidos franceses, italianos, alemanes, españoles, portugueses, extranjeros o primera generación de los mismos. Habiendo vivido el suscrito la mayor parte de su niñéz en el puerto peruano de Chimbote poblada por entonces por cientos de inmigrantes extranjeros atraídos por el boom de la pesca, la siderurgia naciente y empleos colaterales mil, sé por experiencia propia que los extranjeros que hicieron fortuna en el puerto siempre trataron de retribuir al país que los acogió con parte de lo ganado mediante innumerables actos de beneficiencia. Sé también que preguntados a que país querían más siempre respondian : naci en mi país por accidente, soy hijo de la tierra que me acogió, me dió fortuna y me permitió erigir y fructificar a mi familia.
