HERMES TRISMEGISTUS AND HIS INFLUENCE IN FREEMASONRY

Son of one architect of Pharaoh Zoser (III Dynasty of Egyptian kings) and a housewife, Hermes Trismegistus was born in Egypt (2690-2610 years b. C). He entered to the School of Mysteries of Horus Eye at 8 years, learning theory and facts of most knowledge of that time. Although his learning includes astronomy, mathematics, numerology, geography, psychology, geometry, alchemy, natural sciences, design of temples, medicine, structures of the universe, position-movements of planets and stars, astrology, map of constellations, equinoxes, animal’s qualities, knowledge of powders of different classes, types of stones etc, three areas written by Hermes are a legacy for hermetists and the whole humanity: I) CONSTRUCTION OF THE FIRST STONE STAGGERED EGYPTIAN PYRAMID (Saqqarah), for Pharaoh Zoser, using natural resources and Arikat brick technique. Pyramid of 60 m of height, permanently reflecting the light. The construction that required 7 years, used millions of bricks, after converting soft in hard clay mixing it with organic remains extracted from the sea, to which he added lime and fossilized shells, ointing with oil the inner of wooden molds to facilitate their extraction. In Saqqarah it is perceived harmony, balance and master in the design. II) MAGIC and REASONED MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE, written in the papyrus of Edwin Smith (2700 years b.C.). Although the caduceus resonates in all frequencies and wavelengths, applying electric current to it not formed any field of force. Hermes' medical teachings, apart from applying the energy power of words, touch and eyes, put bigger emphasis in reason than in magic aspects.

III) ACCORDING TO CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA, Hermes wrote 42 sacred books (36 of hermeticism and Egyptian philosophy, 4 of astrology, 10 of law, 10 of sacred rites and observances, 2 of music, cosmography geography, mathematic measurements, priests’ training, 6 of medicine, illnesses, body instruments, affections of eyes and women, with Egyptian hieroglyphics in papyruses kept in the Egyptian temples of Isis, being ignored the original phonetics and the sources to obtain such a wisdom, noticing Hermes the hidden sense of his books and that when the Greeks translated them they would be darkened. Of these books in which is written about science, mystic, magic, cosmogony and mythology we have: 1) THE KYBALION, characterized by 7 hermetic Principles with a magic key to open the doors of the inner Temple: a) Mentalism. Everything is Mind; the universe is mental. The one that understands it is very advanced in the follower's path. Mental transmutation: all metals and elements can be transmuted, from state in state, from pole to pole, from vibration in vibration. b) Correspondence. As it is up it is below, as it below it is up. Studying the mónade you ends up understanding the Archangel. c) Vibration. Everything vibrates. Everything is in movement. d) Polarity. Everything is double, everything has 2 poles; similar and antagonistic are identical in nature, different in grade; all truths are semitruths, all paradoxes can reconcile e) Rhythm. Everything flows; everything has their periods of advance and setback, everything ascends and descends; everything moves as a pendulum f) Causes and Effect. All cause has its effect; all effect has its cause; everything happens according to the law; the luck is not more than the name that you gives to a non well-known law; there are many planes of chance, but nothing can escapes to the Law. g) Generation exists everywhere; everything has their masculine and feminine principle; it is manifested in all planes, always in action the masculine and feminine principles, not alone in the physical, mental and spiritual plane. In the physical world it is the sex, in superior planes it is something higher. No physical, mental or spiritual creation, is possible without this principle.

2) THE CHART EMERALD, great alchemist text written in hieroglyphic. It is said that the Great Alexander found the tablet in Hermes' tomb and copied the signs of the original table that covered Hermes' body. Another version (cabalist), adduces that Sara wife of Abraham copied the text of the chart: "What is below is as what is up, and what is up is as what is below, to carry out the miracle of Unique Thing. All the things were born of this Only Thing. For adaptation you will separate the Earth from Fire, the subtle of the rude thing, smoothly… it Ascends from Earth to the Sky and again it descends to the Earth and receives the force of superior things and of the inferior ones... the world was created This way. They will have admirable adaptations. The text mentions the art of the improvement, the Great Work implies its execution. All alchemist needs a personal transmutation to understand the text. The cryptic expression of the Chart is not intentional, it required appropriate people. He who understands it will have shortcut to the Everything. Esmeralda's Chart has a marked holistic tendency, distant of the current more unidirectional and more nihilistic. Their objective is to reveal the secret of the primordial substance and its transmutations. It has Arabic predecessors (Kitab Sirr al-Khaliqa wa Sanat al-Tabia (c. 650 D.C.).

3) CORPUS HERMETICUM, consist of : The Divine Pynander, composed by 17 fragments, written in Greek, except The Asclepio that is written in Latin (XIV-XVI centuries), with hermetic concepts of universe and divine wisdom, revealed to Hermes, The Poimmandres or The Vision that relates Hermes' mystic vision, cosmogony, Egyptian secret sciences, culture and spiritual development. They are Greek translations of very old Egyptian texts. Treaty I. Nous: intelligence. Logos:doctrine:verb. Poimandres was written to the style of Greek dialogues. Supreme power. He reveals to Hermes, the gnosis: origin of cosmos, man's nature, Antropogénesis, original androginism, the well and the wrong in the man. The man that intent to challenge universal laws is silly and vain. The intelligent uses the Law: superiors against inferior. By means of mind alchemy he transmutes the desirable, in valuable and triumphs. The transmutation is a weapon of the Teacher. HERMETIC AXIOMS. Possession of knowledge, without practice is the same thing that to bury beautiful metals: vain and useless. To change your mental state, change your vibration, by means of the will, on the wanted state. To destroy a non desirable vibration, concéntre the attention in the opposed pole to which wants you to suppress. Facts not desirable are killed changing their polarity. To dominate polarity means to dominate the principles of mental transmutation or mental alchemy; because one won't be able to affect the atmosphere that surrounds us. The hermetics look for superior plane of action, in order to overcome ordinary atmosphere. Sages use cause and effect principle instead of being allowed to being dominated for it. In inferior planes sages are gentlemen and non slaves. Sage man serves in the superior scale but governs in the lower. Sages and ignoramus are subjected to law.

HERMES TRISMEGISTUS Y SU INFLUENCIA EN LA MASONERIA

Hijo de un arquitecto del Faraón Zoser (III Dinastía de reyes egipcios) y una ama de casa, Hermes Trismegistus nació en Egipto (2690-2610 años a. C). Ingresó a la Escuela de Misterios del Ojo de Horus a los 8 años, aprendiendo teoría y práctica de la mayoría de conocimientos de su época. Aunque su aprendizaje incluyó: astronomía, matemáticas, numerología, geografía, psicología, geometría, alquimia, ciencias naturales, diseño de templos, medicina, estructura del universo, posición-movimientos de planetas y estrellas, astrología, mapa de constelaciones, equinoccios, cualidades de animales, conocimiento de polvos de distintas clases, tipos de piedras etc, tres areas escritas por el, son un legado para hermetistas y humanidad actual : I) CONSTRUCCIÓN DE LA PRIMERA PIRÁMIDE EGIPCIA ESCALONADA DE PIEDRA pulida (Saqqarah), para el Faraón Zoser, empleando recursos naturales y técnica de ladrillos Arikat. Pirámide de 60 m de altura reflejante de la luz, cuya construcción requirió 7 años. Para ello, utilizó millones de ladrillos, tras convertir arcilla blanda en dura mezclándola con restos orgánicos extraídos de los fondos marinos, a los que adicionó cal y conchas fosilizadas, untando con aceite el interior de los moldes de madera para facilitar su extracción. En Saqqarah se percibe armonía, equilibrio y maestría en el diseño. II) CONOCIMIENTOS MÉDICOS mágicos, razonados y de avanzada descritos en el papiro de Edwin Smith (2700 años a.C.). Hermes considerado a si mismo Sumo sacerdote de Egipto y Guardián del Conocimiento, también era médico. Para diagnosticar enfermedades, inventó una vara de poder (caduceo), de 1.7 m de altura, para identificar y medir la energia vital contenida en los centros neurales (Chakras), de un individuo, ubicar sus desfases celulares electromagnéticos y restablecer el balance de sus Chakras. Curaba, elevando la frecuencia vibratoria del aura o campo electromagnético personal -causa real de las enfermedades-. El caduceo consta de 2 serpientes entrecruzadas posadas sobre 7 chakras. Representa 2 polaridades de carga eléctrica. Suponía Hermes, que por su centro transcurrían partículas ondulatorias, hiperdensas en ciertas áreas vertebrales, que facilitaban la iluminación (Kundalini). Aunque resuena en todas las frecuencias y longitudes de onda, aplicando corriente eléctrica al caduceo, no se forma ningún campo de fuerza. Algunas enseñanzas médicas de Hermes, se encuentran en el Papiro Edwin Smith, donde aparte de aplicar el poder energético de la palabra, tacto y vista, se percibe mayor énfasis en la razón, que en la magia.

III) SEGÚN CLEMENTE DE ALEJANDRIA, Hermes escribió 42 libros sagrados (36 de hermetismo y filosofía egipcia, 4 de astrología, 10 de la ley, 10 de ritos sagrados y observancias, 2 de música, escritura, cosmografía geografía, medidas matemáticas, entrenamiento de sacerdotes, 6 de medicina, enfermedades corporales instrumentos, afecciones de ojos y mujeres, con jeroglíficos egipcios en papiros guardados en los templos egipcios de Isis, desconociéndose la fonética original y las fuentes para obtener tal sabiduría, advirtiendo Hermes el sentido oculto de sus libros y que cuando los griegos los tradujeran se oscurecerían. De estos libros en los que se habla de ciencia, mística, magia, cosmogonía y mitología solo conocemos algunos: 1) EL KYBALION, caracterizado por 7 Principios herméticos posedores de una clave mágica para abrir las puertas del Templo de par en par: a) Mentalismo. El Todo es Mente; el universo es mental. El que comprenda está muy avanzado en el sendero del adepto. Transmutación mental: todos los metales y elementos, pueden ser transmutados, de estado en estado, de grado en grado, de polo a polo, de vibración en vibración. Todo es mente,el universo es mental. b) Correspondencia. Como es arriba es abajo, como es abajo es arriba. Estudiando la mónada se llega a comprender al arcángel. d) Vibración. Todo vibra. Todo está en movimiento, nada es inmóvil. d) Polaridad. Toda causa tiene su efecto; todo efecto tiene su causa; todo sucede de acuerdo a la ley; la suerte no es más que el nombre que se dá a una ley no conocida; hay muchos planos de casualidad, pero nada escapa a la Ley. g) la Generación existe por doquier; todo tiene su principio masculino y femenino; se manifiesta en todos los planos, siempre en acción los principios masculino y femenino, no solo en el plano físico, mental y espiritual. En el mundo físico es el sexo, en los planos superiores es algo más elevado. Ninguna creación física, mental o espiritual, es posible sin este principio.

2) LA TABLA ESMERALDA, gran texto alquímico escrito en jeroglíficos. Se dice que Alejandro Magno la encontró en la tumba de Hermes y copió los signos de la tablilla original que cubría el cuerpo de Hermes. Otra versión (cabalistas), aduce que Sara esposa de Abraham copió el texto de la tabla : “Lo que está abajo es como lo que está arriba, y lo que está arriba es como lo que está abajo, para realizar el milagro de la Cosa Única. Todas las cosas nacieron de esta Única Cosa. Por adaptación separarás la Tierra del Fuego, lo sutil de lo grosero, suavemente… Asciende de la Tierra al Cielo y de nuevo desciende a la Tierra y recibe la fuerza de las cosas superiores y de las inferiores...Así fue creado el mundo. Habrán admirables adaptaciones. El texto alude al arte del perfeccionamiento y la Gran Obra implica su cumplimiento. Todo alquimista necesita una transmutación personal para entender el texto. La expresión críptica de Tabla no es intencional, se requiere personas adecuadas. Aquél que la entienda tendrá acceso directo al Todo. La Tabla de Esmeralda tiene una marcada tendencia holística distante, del saber contemporáneo, más unidireccional y nihilista que en integración, de los opuestos de la existencia. Su objetivo es revelar el secreto de la sustancia primordial y sus transmutaciones. Tiene predecesores arábigos (Kitab Sirr al-Khaliqa wa Sanat al-Tabia (c. 650 d.C.).

4) POEMAS 5) LIBRO DE LOS MUERTOS, textos religiosos en paredes de pirámides, con sortilegios y fórmulas mágicas en procura del bienestar del faraón muerto rituales favorecedores de la nueva existencia en el mas allá. Muchos libros restantes se perdieron durante el incendio de la biblioteca de Alejandrٕía. De estos libros se han tomado rituales, esoterismo simbólico y muchos principios. El simbolismo geométrico del Pitagorismo establece que entre el Nous y el hombre no existen intermediarios, la única mediación es la inteligencia y la sabiduría que todo hombre porta en si. Por ello la masonería no adhiere a ninguna religión. Durante la época de la masonería operativa se provenía y contemplaba la iniciación hermética. Durante la masonería simbólica los rituales fueron estructurados en base a hermetismo. Existe un orden inteligente en el cosmos. Nuestra estadía en la orden masónica pregona un orden inteligente el que se advierte con nuestra participación activa. El orden (la ley), se manifiesta en el orden infrahumano, humano y superhumano. En tanto el fluir de la vida no se detiene, los humanos tenemos problemas por falta de información. Para evitar cometer errores hay que entender las leyes y la mente del poder supremo. Según Marsilio Ficino, las doctrinas de Hermes han tenido influencia grande en las religiones actuales. “Dondequiera que estén las huellas del Maestro, allí, los oídos del que está pronto a recibir sus enseñanzas se abren de par en par”.

CONCEPTOS ADICIONALES EN LOS LIBROS DE HERMES. LA PARADOJA DIVINA. El sabio a medias, irrealidad relativa del Universo, desafiar sus leyes es tonto y vano, El verdadero sabio emplea la Ley: las leyes: superiores contra inferiores. Por medio de alquimia transmuta lo no deseable, en valioso y triunfa. La transmutación no negación, es arma del Maestro. AXIOMAS HERMETICOS. Posesión del conocimiento, sin práctica es lo mismo que enterrar metales preciosos: vana e inútil. Para cambiar vuestro estado mental, cambiad vuestra vibración, mediante la voluntad, sobre el estado deseado. Para destruir un grado de vibración no deseable, concéntre la atención en el polo opuesto al que se desea suprimir. Lo no deseable se mata cambiando su polaridad". Dominar la polaridad significa dominar los principios de la transmutación o alquimia mental; no se podrá afectar el ambiente que nos rodea. Los herméticos avanzan, buscan un plano de acción mental superior, dominando sus propias cualidades, se sobreponen a su ambiente ordinario. Emplean el principio de causa y efecto en vez de dejarse dominar por él. En los planos inferiores inferiores son señores y no esclavos. El sabio sirve en lo superior pero rige en lo inferior. Obedece las leyes por encima de el, abajo rige y ordena. Sabio e ignorante estan sujetos a ley.
