In one of the last workshop taken in our beloved Lodge I had the opportunity to articulate a modest reflection on The Tracing Boarding Table of the First Degree. I will tell you that I carry out this tracing board table every week, together with my brethren from the deposit to the temple. This time, the Junior Warden spoke a discourse allusive to the topic with the nice addition of distributing copies of his speech. It toured the temple structure (Lodge), the meaning of the symbols, adorning jewelry and furniture that are in the Temple and the symbolic connection with the G:. A:. D:. U:.
"With your permission Worshipful Master, I will speak about 3 themes: I) If I could extract the most important part, the noumenon of the brilliant presentation of the Junior Warden, I will stop at something that captures and captivates my mind wherever I go. The connection with the G:. A:. D:. U:. : The Jacob's ladder, which means that after a sincere conversion is possible to climb and be part of the universal consciousness, a higher space inhabited by a new type of humans beings. If the fate would grant me the pleasure of advising the training of a new entered apprentice during their first steps in this or any other Lodge, I would suggest him to watch closely the Jacob’s Ladder of the Tracing Board of the First Grade without requiring any immediate response at all. With the assurance that the learner would find the correct answer, I will hope -some years later- that when he will counsel to other entered apprentice he will guide him the same way and then again and again, ad infinitum with other entered apprentices.
"II) Jacob's Ladder is a symbol that is not magic or fictional. It's a visual stimulus proposed to every mason to be continually better. Symbols like Jacob's ladder and others who wield the Lodges constitute an ancestral alternative communication system. One beholds and apprehends the meaning at a single glance. It is a synthetic and effective communication media, which goes straight to the heart, the deepest part of our structure. The Chinese say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Today, I'm almost convinced that oral or written language does not convey everything we want. Therefore, in certain limit situations, after talking and talking we finally kill ourselves. Saviant (s) the fremasons who adopted symbols and signs to communicate properly through centuries".
"III) Finally Worshipful Master, if an entered apprentice urge me to provide him counseling about ethics and morality, to facilitate their climb up the ladder of Jacob, I will whisper in their ears: i) To follow faithfully what Free-masonry preaches and makes every day: fraternity , charity, temperance, tolerance, beauty, strength, justice, wisdom, harmonic silence, love to our fellows, love to the whole mankind and ii) that he must scrutinize the Volume of Sacred Law, reading and rereading it (more times the better). If I were asked why?...gathering all forces of my humanity I would add this support: a) the Volume of Sacred Law recounts events over 3000 years ago and yet still and forever will continue fresh and young and b) that unlike modern books on ethics and morals that speak only of the good, the Volume of Sacred Law spoke of crimes-sacrifice lives for others, incest-respect for others, war-peace-search, showing life as it is, urging you to look for yourself and find the truth, according to your heart and your level of spiritual evolution.
